User Guide

How to Use This Trainer

Pick a mode

  • 🎧 Listen & Type — best for beginners. You hear a Morse signal; type what you heard. This builds real ear-based recognition, not just visual memorization.
  • ✍️ See & Encode — you’re shown a letter or word; type its Morse code back (using . and -). This trains sending, the reverse skill.
  • ⏱ Speed Round — a 60-second timed challenge. Decode as many signals as you can before time runs out. Best once you’re comfortable with the basics.

Set your difficulty

Under Trainer Settings:

  • Character Speed (WPM) — how fast each dot/dash plays. Start at 18 WPM even as a beginner (this is Farnsworth-style timing — the letters play at natural speed, so you don’t fall into the trap of counting dots and dashes).
  • Character Set — start with “Beginner (E T A N I M S O)” if you’re brand new, move to “Full Alphabet” once comfortable, then “Letters + Numbers” for the full challenge.
  • Word Length — controls difficulty in Listen/Encode modes once you level up past single characters.

Start a session

Hit Start Session, and the trainer begins feeding you characters or words. Type your answer and press Enter (or click Check). Correct answers build your streak — every 5 in a row levels you up to slightly harder content.

Use Replay and Skip when needed

  • Replay re-plays the current signal if you missed it.
  • Skip moves on without penalty to your score, but resets your streak — use it if you’re stuck rather than guessing repeatedly.

Track your progress

Your Score, Streak, and Accuracy % update live. Accuracy matters more than raw speed early on — it’s better to be highly accurate at 18 WPM than fast and sloppy.
